#56: What feedback loops have we engineered?

When it comes to achieving significant goals (such as unleashing growth in your business) – it’s helpful to ask yourself:

‘How do you eat an elephant?’

Of course, the elephant is metaphorical and the answer is ‘one bite at a time’.

Simply put, your achievement of big goals is only made possible by the achievement of many smaller goals.

Big goals are essential in business, but as you know, they often take extended periods of hard work, dedication, and coordination among your team.

Oftentimes, team members can forget how they contribute to the end goal and may even lose the motivation to give it their all.

One easy way to overcome this tendency is to engineer the proper feedback loops in your business.

Here are two examples of feedback loops:

Action > Result > Good Feeling > More Action > More Result

Action > Result > Poor Feeling > Less Action > Less Result

We all want #1 right?

So in order to achieve this, simply instill a culture of celebrating each small win along the way.

What this does is provides the necessary fuel to keep your team going by creating happiness, motivation, and a sense of accomplishment.

Now don’t worry, these celebrations don’t need to be anything huge, in fact, they can be a virtual high five sent among co-workers, adding another entry into a success log, a quick email blast, a job well done message, etc.

By taking a few moments to do this, you’re not only showing appreciation for your team, you’re also increasing the likelihood of achieving the ultimate goal.
