#34: If it’s NOT CEO … what should my title be?

Okay, so you are the Chief Executive Officer.

In certain situations that might be the most appropriate way to introduce yourself.

And maybe that title ‘technically’ describes what you ARE.

But does it really tell anyone that counts what you DO?

Probably not. Particularly if the people that really count are the people you’re leading.

Maybe you should have a more appropriate title – something that markets ‘brand you’ to them.

A title that explains your value to them.

A title that explains what you do for them.

A title that actually explains why you exist.

And maybe finally explains, in an easy-to-understand way, what you do all day!

Maybe, like the CEO of Mid America Motorworks, your title could be Chief Cheerleader.

Or perhaps you’re the Chief Troublemaker, like the CEO of Matrix Group.

Or maybe Chief Amazement Officer would suit you better – that’s what the founder of Shephard Presentations calls themself.

Just a bit of fun? On one level, yes.

(And what’s wrong with that.)

But beyond that can you see how a different/imaginative/creative title could be quite a useful way to communicate your intentions and explain your behavior to those that you are leading.

And might it even make you think about your words and actions – possibly on a minute-by-minute basis(!).

Me?

I’m playing with Chief Obstacle Obliterator. Because obliterating obstacles is what ‘we’ do for our CEO clients. And internally, that’s what I do for our team to enable them to do that for our clients.
