#24: How can we make our employees even happier?

Tom Peters – enfant terrible of the management consulting world – made an interesting point when he said …

“Your customer is never happier than your employees”.

Mmm, that kinda makes sense, doesn’t it?

Obviously, one of the functions of a business is to ensure its customers/clients/patients/members are happy.

Your employees, at every level and in every department, play a role in ensuring that ‘happiness is delivered’.

Many studies have shown a link between ‘happiness’ and ‘effectiveness’.

In an organization, ensuring that people’s work has meaning, and they are connected to a sense of purpose is a powerful way to increase ‘happiness’.

That’s the big picture stuff.

But it’s also known that a ‘happiness fix’ can come from just having your finger on the pulse of people’s mood and influencing that.

In one study, researchers found that if people were treated to free snacks and 10 minutes of watching funny videos, they were 12% more productive afterwards.

Are your employees happy? Could they be happier? What would actually make them happier? How is their happiness (or not!) affecting your ability to create happier customers?

Much to consider, don’t you think?
