Billionaire Clay Mathile, founder of the pet food maker ‘IAMS’ once revealed in an interview …
‘It took me five years to figure out I had a product that dogs wouldn’t eat and packaging consumers wouldn’t buy’.
Now, there was NOTHING ‘wrong’ with the product. The food was designed to deliver the right nutrition to a dog. It did that perfectly. And a dog’s health would transform in a matter of weeks.
But still ‘dogs wouldn’t eat it’ and ‘consumers wouldn’t buy it’.
Once these minor issues(!) were fixed, Iams grew like a weed and Mathile eventually sold the business to Procter & Gamble for $2.3 billion in 1999.
