Is it a common occurrence for you to shake your head and wonder why people …
‘Just don’t get it?”
Maybe it’s when you’re speaking to your team members …
Or prospects …
Service providers …
Or even your children …
If so, you may very well be suffering from a condition called ‘The Curse of Knowledge’.
Having the Curse of Knowledge is when you unknowingly assume others have the same knowledge, skills, experience, and insight as you.
This is a common occurrence for many entrepreneurs and business owners since we’re constantly upgrading our skills, knowledge, and expertise.
It’s easy for us to forget that others aren’t necessarily ‘like us’ – right?
Now, the important thing to remember is that although this may be frustrating … it can wreak havoc on your ability to grow your business.
See, most people are non-confrontational and if given the choice to speak up, or nod their head and smile politely …
Well, you already know what they’re bound to choose, right?
They give you the false sense of being on the same page, but in reality, you might as well be speaking a foreign language.
This is why as a leader, you have a special obligation to communicate in such a way that there’s no opportunity for misunderstandings.
And a big part of that is by asking your team members questions, the same way you ask them of yourself.
If they struggle to answer, then you know there’s a breakdown somewhere in the line of communication.
