#84: Do we get a high from pleasing our customers?

Ramon DeLeon is a bit of a legend at Dominos Pizza.

Starting as a delivery guy he became GM for a 6 strong Dominos franchise group in Chicago.

Even though he was running a ‘corporate’ pizza business up against hundreds of ‘indie’ pizza businesses in a city that once declared itself the ‘world capital’ of pizza – he still broke records!

Later, he moved to New York with Dominos … and went on to break record after record there too.

How’d he do it?

Well, many people attribute his success to ninja-like social media market skills, which he undoubtedly has.

In fact, he even calls himself the ‘Word of Mouth Supergenius’.

BUT – and this is really, really important – even though he’s very accomplished at using social media today, he was still hugely effective BEFORE Twitter and Facebook had arrived on the scene.

Because as he points out … ‘social media is about people NOT technology’.

And that’s why he’s still breaking records and ahead of most other people today even though FB and Twitter should have leveled the playing field.

You see, De Leon has always loved pleasing customers more than most other people.

Social media has just enabled him to show more love, to more customers, more often.

He may ‘only’ be delivering pizzas, but he finds real joy in the impact he can make on people through that simple act.

That joy was revealed in an interview he once gave, where he said …

“It became a high for me, the excitement, the doorbell, the kids jumping and shouting ‘the pizza guy’s here!’”

Do you feel his sense of joy too?

And, do you and your employees get a high from pleasing customers?
